Idaho REALTORS® Good Neighbor Award
The Idaho REALTORS® Good Neighbor Award is a new award that recognizes REALTORS® who have made an extraordinary impact on their community through volunteer work. To be eligible, nominees must be members of Idaho REALTORS® in good standing and should have made a significant impact as a volunteer for a nonprofit organization. The award focuses on the level of personal contribution, the impact of personal contribution, the broadness of impact, and the project’s suitability as a role model for other REALTORS®. Nominees can document the results of their individual involvement through published reports and/or testimonials from the organization they served or the people they helped. Service Animal Suit Dismissed, Revived
The Ninth Circuit Court reversed a decision favoring a landlord who had rejected a prospective tenant’s application because they had a service dog. The prospective tenant had filed a discrimination suit, alleging that the landlord had violated both the federal Fair Housing Act and California’s Fair Housing and Employment Act, and claiming negligence. This followed the denial of the group application, which included a request to accommodate the plaintiff’s service animal, a 50-lb. terrier mix named Tinkerbell. The rental advertisement had stated a “No Dogs” policy, but the plaintiff had explained that Tinkerbell was a verified support animal and a “reasonable accommodation” under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The enforcement of data privacy laws is intensifying, highlighting the critical importance of correctly managing this data. While no federal laws specifically regulate data privacy in real estate, many states are adopting comprehensive laws to protect consumers’ personal information, granting them rights to control their data. Idaho’s Riding With the Brand Event
The Riding with the Brand event in Idaho was an incredible success! The event was held at the Idaho State Capitol Building on a brisk, but beautiful April afternoon, where members gathered to celebrate REALTOR® pride and community involvement. Over 200 REALTOR® members attended the event and were fortunate to hear from an impressive lineup of speakers which included Idaho Governor Brad Little, National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) President Kenny Parcell, and Idaho’s own NAR President Elect Tracy Kasper. They discussed important topics such as REALTOR® advocacy, brand identity, and the Code of the West.
