Raising the Bar: A Year of Code of Ethics Conversations

As we close out the year we wanted to reflect on Raising the Bar: The REALTOR® Code of Ethics video series, and what this year of conversations has meant for our association and profession.

When we launched this series, the goal was simple: to take the Code of Ethics out of the classroom and put it into real-world context. Rather than treating it as a checklist or a requirement to complete every few years, we wanted to talk honestly about how the Code shows up in everyday transactions, conversations, and professional relationships.

Over the past year, REALTORS® from across Idaho stepped forward to share their perspectives on key Articles of the Code. Together, we explored topics like cooperation between brokers, disclosure and transparency, truth in advertising, written agreements, fair treatment, and respecting existing client relationships. Each video grounded the Code of Ethics in practical examples that reflect the realities of our work and the decisions REALTORS® make every day.

Themes continued to surface throughout the series: professionalism is built on clarity, respect, and accountability. Whether the conversation focused on slowing down a transaction so clients fully understand what they are signing, being honest and accurate in marketing, or honoring another REALTOR®’s client relationship, the message was consistent. Ethical practice isn’t just about avoiding problems—it’s about building trust and credibility over time.

I am incredibly proud of the REALTORS® who participated in this series and shared their experiences, and I am just as grateful to the members who took the time to watch, reflect, and engage with these videos. Your willingness to pause, think critically, and recommit to these principles is what strengthens our profession.

The Code of Ethics is foundational to who we are as REALTORS®. It sets us apart and holds us to a higher standard—not just legally, but professionally. While this video series is coming to a close, the commitment it represents continues with every client interaction and every transaction.

All Raising the Bar videos will remain available on the Idaho REALTORS® website as an ongoing resource for members. A huge thank you to Nick Stout for his expertise in the productions of these videos. Thank you to our members for being part of this series, and for the professionalism, integrity, and care you bring to your work every day.
